The Ndlovu Youth Choir Brings Electrifying Performance to OSSU Students

On October 30, OSSU’s 3rd-12th grade students had the unique opportunity to travel to the Highland Center for the Arts (HCA) to watch a performance by the Ndlovu Youth Choir. Hailing from South Africa, Ndlovu just wrapped up a performance at Carnegie Hall before traveling to Greensboro exclusively to perform for our students! Students were absolutely wowed by the energetic performance and incredible harmonies displayed on stage. When asked what they liked most about the show, student after student responded, “Everything!”

Blending the many languages of South Africa and English, Ndlovu offered stirring renditions of Steve Winwood’s Higher Love and The Circle of Life. Students learned about the drought dangers South Africa faces with heightened climate change and listened to a traditional prayer for rain. The energy reached new levels as the group sang Mbube (known to many as The Lion Sleeps Tonight), educating students on the song’s South African roots and leaving them swaying in their seats.

We send our immense gratitude to our community partner, The Highland Center for the Arts, and the event’s sponsors, Jasper Hill Farm, Teaching Learning Solutions, Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and the Highland Lodge, who brought this incredible show to our students free of charge. This will no doubt be a lifetime memory for all who attended!
