Mountainbury Exchange Program

The Craftsbury Town School District (CTSD) and Mountain View Union Elementary School District (MVUESD) boards are pleased to announce a new school choice option for families beginning in Fall 2025. The Mountainbury Exchange Program is a 1:1 student exchange program patterned after the Hazenbury Exchange Program.

How does it work?

  • Full-time resident students in grades K-6 may apply to be a part of the exchange program.
  • Homeschool students must enroll full-time prior to applying for the program.
  • Craftsbury students may apply to attend Hardwick Elementary School or Woodbury Elementary School.
  • Hardwick and Woodbury students may apply to attend Craftsbury Schools. (To attend a different school within MVUESD use the intradistrict choice option.)
  • Enrollment in another school is dependent upon that school’s ability to accommodate the student in a particular grade level.
  • There must be a matching student from each district to enter into the exchange.
  • When no match is available, students will be placed on a waiting list.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for transporting their students. There will be no busing provided.
  • ONCE THEY BEGIN THE EXCHANGE, A STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE ALTERNATE SCHOOL THROUGH GRADE 6!
  • Exchanges start at the beginning of each school year.
  • The annual application window will be April 1 through May 1 for the ensuing school year.
  • For the inaugural year, 2025-2026, the application window will be May 2, 2025, through May 16, 2025, and slots will be filled by random selection.
  • A separate application must be completed for each individual student.
  • Applicants will be slotted onto the waiting list each year by random drawing following the application deadline.
  • Students who are not selected will remain on the waiting list unless they request to be removed.
  • When a slot is available, the first student on the waiting list will be given the option of accepting or rejecting the slot within three (3) business days. If they reject the opening, their name will be removed from the list and they will have to reapply for future consideration.
