Federal Medicaid Program

OSSU- Working Together To Ensure All Students Learn and Feel a True Sense of Belonging.
Schools can be reimbursed from Medicaid for services provided to students on Individual Education Plans (IEP’s). As the parent of a child on an IEP, you can help us to get this reimbursement by giving your consent. The information you give is confidential and will only be used to bill for your child’s services. Allowing us to bill Medicaid will not change your child’s health benefits provided by Medicaid. There are no caps or limits to the amount of services your child is receiving. If you have health insurance, as well as Medicaid, your insurance will not be billed.
If you choose not to release/share this information, it will not change the services your child receives. Services will still be provided as stated on your child’s IEP.
Every year each school forms a committee made up of school staff, teachers, and community members to determine how this money will be spent. The funds must be used to assist students who are not achieving the standards and the activities must be part of the school’s action plan.
Over the years, Medicaid funds have contributed to support the following:
- Classroom assistants to work with children who are not meeting the Vermont Framework of Standards
- Speech Language services for early education and elementary age children
- Home School Coordinators
- Student Assistance Program personnel
- Early education pre-school space
- Summer Learning Camp
- Service Learning Program
- Math Specialist
- 504 Coordinator
- Summer Stars
- Reading Specialist
- Afterschool Program
- Evenstart
- Mental Health Counselor
- Professional Development
More information regarding the Federal Medicaid Program can be obtained in each school or with Director of Student Services.
